My Digital Marketing Journey

If you’ve read my Copywriting Journey, by now you already know that I’m a master wordsmith. 

However, copywriting’s not just about being eloquent, creative, or artsy. It’s salesmanship in print. 

Having mastered the craft of writing advertisements, I followed the breadcrumb trail to a career in digital marketing management. 

At first, I worked as a CRO consultant where I tweaked other copywriters’ ads and sales pages to maximize their conversion potential. 

After a lot of successful A/B tests, my employers started paying me extra to coach their team of writers and edit their stuff.

I also scouted for fresh blood, recruited talented writers, and onboarded them into our team.

As time went on, my assignments started leaning towards content marketing strategy. I had to learn the basics of SEO so that I could research relevant keywords and competition. I’d then come up with new topics, appealing content that offered value, and go-to-market strategies.

Besides on-page optimization, I briefly handled link building, social media networking, influencer marketing, and outreach. 

That eventually lead to a position in the Lead Generation and Sales Development departments in SaaS companies. 

However, I wasn’t just prospecting and filtering qualified leads. I also handled all of my company’s outbound marketing material, from the top-of-the-funnel to the bottom-of-the-funnel collateral. 

I created pipelines and wrote everything from emails to presentations, demos, webinars, and pitches. 

However, I didn’t just write our material. I also presented our company, our product, and our services on live meetings. 

To put it to simple terms, I’ve closed clients while building successful partnerships with other companies in the industry. 

As a right-hand business developer of our CTO, I was in charge of product management and finding a better product-market fit.

Since I got to know the product, the industry, the demand, the competition, AND our customer’s pain points and desires, I became invaluable in end-to-end funnel optimization.

All along, I continued to write copy as a part-time contractor and a freelancer. I also worked for a number of other SaaS companies and Digital Marketing Agencies and somewhere along the line, I learned the basics of Email Marketing Automation

I currently work with 2 SaaS companies, 1 Digital Marketing Agency, and occasionally, I help out a few old clients of mine.

Yeah, you’ve heard it right. I have 1 full-time job + 2 part-time jobs.

How do I manage? Beats me.

So I guess I’ve covered the “who are we and where did we come from” part. 

All that remains is for me to answer is the infamous “where are we going”.

Well, that, my friend, is currently beyond me.

I guess we’ll see.
